Week 3: While following Billabongs social media this week, I noticed that most of their posts were to promote their new wetsuits. They are coldwater wetsuits and they have made mini films for them to get the product out there. Another few things they have been posting about are some of their new mini films called “Adventure Division”. It follows Ryan Callinan as he goes on a trip to Havamal and tries out billabongs new suits as well as surfing some frigid water. These posts are trying to show the customers that their wetsuits can keep you warm no matter what temperature water you’re in. The movies and picture posts really helped with promotion because they show the wetsuits in action and you can quite literally see them performing the way they should be. Most of the comments are just the community encouraging the company and telling them to keep up the good work. Billabong does not really respond to any of their comments, at least on instagram. They normally just send out a post with a caption and that is the extent of what they do.

Week 4: While looking at billabong this week they were advertising two new things that their teams created. One was a new surf film called “Another Good Call” created by Dylan Roberts who traveled to Western Australia to film it. It was mainly to advertise their newly created wetsuits that are fully recycled and made out of Graphene. The film follows a big group of surfers who are very well known and they put the wetsuits through a series of “ultimate performance tests”. The surfers are Creed McTaggart, Mark Occhilupo, Ryan Callinan, Dakoda Walters, Lennix Smith, Italo Ferreira, Ethan Ewing, Griffin Colapinto, Seth Moniz, Frederico Morais and Sid Englert. The next thing they were advertising this week was another new type of wetsuit. They claim that it is the softest, lightest, stretchiest suit you’ll ever wear, made from recycled materials. It is a part of their new line of recycled material wetsuits. They have been advertising this new line of suits for a few weeks. They keep coming out with new ones. I really like the way they advertise. The films the create are really interesting and fun to watch. t
Week 5: This week billabong is advertising their newest feature added to the custom platform. It is called Create for The Community or CFTC for short. It allows you to create and design your own one of a kind board shorts and or your own wetsuit. One of the great parts of this is that all of the proceeds goes to the City surf project in San Francisco and it helps with the efforts to connect underrepresented youth to the ocean and the magic feeling of riding a wave. I really like this idea and advertisement. It is for a very good cause and I think it is awesome that billabong is trying to give every person a chance to surf. One of their other advertisements was a picture of Ryan Callinan wearing the Boundary Half-Zip Mock Neck – featuring ultra-soft polar fleece for maximum warmth and comfort. This new wetsuit is also a part of their new recycled materials line. I like how well they advertise their new suits. They always have a smart way of advertising. The suit where the proceeds go to a good cause is very neat, and I think it is a great idea.

Week 6: This week billabong released their “New Age Wave collection”. It is their newest range of boardshorts, t-shirts, wovens and many more. They explain the new line as a remix of the DNA of their timeless vintage classics into a future-perfect collection of your new favorite pieces. I like how they bring back the old and combine it with the new. It gives it a sick modern vintage look. A lot of the comments were good responses and it seemed like the customers really liked it. I also like the picture they added to the advertisement. It is a radical shot of Creed McTaggart getting absolutely spit out of a barrel. The next post of this week really threw me off and surprised me. I was looking through their feed and an ad about snow gear came up. It is a part of their all-new Adventure Division Snow collection and it is “purpose-built, outdoor gear ready for anything winter throws your way, from the harshest of backcountry exploration to the park at your local mountain.” I did not know that billabong also branched out to more heavy duty outdoor gear. I think this is a very smart idea and I might have to look into some of their gear.

Week 7: This week Billabong released a video on one of their sponsored athletes with snowboarding. It is an Awsome video of the athlete coming off a massive cliff and taking a huge drop. He had a GoPro on his head to show his point of view and then there was also another camera placed a little further away to show how big the drop really was. The whole point of the post was to advertise their winter side of the brand. They have a wide variety of winter sports wear and gear but not a lot of people know about it because they are a more surfing oriented company. Most of the gear and clothes they sell are for summer and not winter. I really did not know that Billabong had a winter side to their company. I think that the way they advertise it is in a very good way. The video made me feel like I wanted to go out and do that while wearing some Awsome Billabong gear. I think if they keep advertising and showing clips like this then people will definitely start to look more towards Billabong for cold gear and try out some new things.

Week 8: This week it was a post about a new film they were making. It is a very short video but it was pretty funny. It starts out with Ryan Callinan(Billabong Surfer) being asked what he’s doing and the funny part is he is getting into his car with his leash still on his foot. The man taking the video starts laughing at him and Ryan starts to laugh with him. It then cuts to a clip of them driving to a new spot. During this part they are just talking about the winds and the incoming tide, saying that it is going to make a good break. That is pretty much the entire video. The whole point of the video was to advertise a new film going out that Billabong helped film and sponsor. The film follows Ryan as he travels through Norway finding little secret gems and solid slabs. I really like how they advertise the films they releases. They are all sort funny clips of surfers just having fun and surfing in awesome places all around the world. I like how they do a quick funny snip because it makes you want to keep watching it. They also always say how good the waves are but you they don’t always show them right away so it adds a little bit of wonder thinking about how the waves look.

Week 9: For this week Billabong posted a video of Mark Occhilupo absolutely eating it on a pretty big wave. He dropped into in and had a good bottom turn and then all of a sudden he tried to snap into the barrel and then all of a sudden he was soaked in the head by the lip of the wave. The front of his board completely submerged and through him off. He got washed around pretty hard and then the leash on his board snapped off completely. He comes out of the water laughing saying that the clip can’t go in the movie. He had a little interview with his filter talking about what had happened and what happened to his leash. It then cuts to him asking someone to get him a new leash and then everyone at a car holding the board. It accutally ended up being completely snapped underneath and he couldn’t ride it anymore. He says “well that’s that” and the video ends. The video was to promote another film called “Another Good Call” It is Billabongs latest film created by Dylan Roberts. Once again, I like how they added a short little funny clip of a surfer who just wiped out pretty hard. It makes me want to watch more of the film and see what other things they got into. I also like how there was a feeling of intenseness in the video. They all talked about breaking a board and a leash which is a pretty hard thing to do. It takes a lot of power from a wave to break a board and it shows you that it’s not always all fun and games.

Week 10: This week Billabong posted one of their sponsored athletes who is also working under and shadowing the great Italo Ferreira who is also sponsored by Billabong. The video shows Arthur Vilar dominating in U12 and U14 competitions and showing how much he has progressed since 2021. It show him and Italo surfing together as well as just hanging out. Italo took Vilar under his wing and taught him the ropes of professional surfing. Vilar has been dominating at competitions ever since. Billabong is very happy to have him as an athlete and are very excited to see where he goes. I think it is crazy how I am writing about a 14 year old kid who is already a border line professional who is also hanging out with the best surfers in the world. It is very hard to process for me how someone is able to do that. His life is already set as long as he keeps surfing. I also find it insane that a 14 year old can do airs on his board. An air is when you use the wave as a ramp to help propel yourself off of a wave and you either do a spin or a flip while landing back on top of the wave. It is Awsome that he has risen to such a high level at such a young age.

Week 11: This week they posted a video of one of their surfers dropping in on a massive section and getting very deep into a barrel. The point of posting this video was to promote and advertise Billabongs new airlite 4D wetsuit. They say it is extremely warm and easy to love in. It is very hard to produce a thick wetsuit that keeps the surfer warm while still having a lot of mobility. There have always been problems with wetsuits being stiff and hard to move in but Billabong has been working very hard on trying to find a new innovate way to solve this problem. They have done a very good job at creating those wetsuits and promoting them. I really like the clip that they posted because it number one, looks very cold. Number two, it is a massive wave and he rides it very well. Number three, it shows how flexible and how easy it is to move in the wetsuit. It is a good way to advertise your gear while you are testing it because it shows the customers that it works. Whenever they advertise a new wetsuit it is in a cool fun way and I really like that approach.

Week 12: This weeks post was a video captured by Jack Freestone. It is a little call back to a week early about their new film Hávamál. A group of surfers travel through Norway and they show their experiences and all the things they do. I really liked this clip because it was shot on 16mm and Super 8 film. It gave the videos a very old retro vibe which made you feel like you were watching a video from the past. I have always wanted to travel and film like this and seeing it on Billabongs page wants me to do it even more. It has such a cool look to it and I want to experience that very badly. I like that Billabong posted this because I think it is a good video to pull people in to have them watch the video fully. It gives a little insider to what is happening on their trip and the video makes you want to know more about it. The scenery and location it is filmed in was incredible, the mountain ranges were massive and the waves where huge. Everything about the video made me want to watch the film and it also really made me want to go out and film something like that.
