The topic I am choosing is how to be better academically. I am going to connect with the audience by first walking them through my experiences during covid because I know we all went through it, and I know most people struggled in some type of way. I will talk about how zoom classes affected and made it very challenging to focus. I had to take latin while over zoom and i felt as if it was almost impossible to learn in that class just being on a computer. I also had to take gym classes over zoom which was an absolute joke. But I choose to talk about my academic self because I have been in school for all my years in life and I haven’t really experienced the professional side. I think it will be much easier to make a good speech out of something I have experienced for multiple years, and being in school for so long made me realize and helps me figure out how I need to improve myself.
Introduction: How can I better myself academically and become a better well rounded student? A lot of people struggle with this idea and how to improve themselves in the classroom. I for one have struggled for a very long time with focusing and completing the tasks I have been assigned.
Body paragraph 1:
I was diagnosed with ADD and ADHD when I was in 7th grade. This made me think a little differently when I would lose focus in school. I knew that I had a problem and I would get upset because I knew why I was losing focus but couldn’t change it. I would have a very hard time sitting down and doing my work. Because of this my dad took me to the doctors to get meds and try to help me that way. They helped me for a little while but I didn’t like the way they made me feel so I stopped taking them. Once I stopped taking them I knew I would have to figure out a new way that would help me focus. There were a lot of things that I would try, like going for a walk or using fidget toys, but none of these ever really helped me. It took me a year or two after to really find what helps me.
Body paragraph 2:
I started to remove myself from people and go into separate rooms. I also would put on headphones and just let myself relax. Once I started doing this my grades started to improve and I felt much better when doing my work. I felt as if my mind was able to flow with ideas much more clearly. Another thing that helped me start to focus, and this sounds very contradicting, but putting on the tv with a show that I have already watched. I already know what’s going to happen so I don’t get distracted by it and the background noise helps me relax and open up my mind.
Body paragraph 3:
Throughout high school I struggled with focusing in class and figuring out how to actually do good in school. I have a hard time focusing and staying on task and I get bored very easily. I really started to struggle with these problems during covid. Once we began zoom classes everything went out the window, I would either just be watching tv, playing my ps4, or just be on my phone during these classes.
Conclusion:I know it is very hard for a lot of people my age to focus and stay on task. Most of my friends had gone through the same experience and it was very hard for them to focus in school as well. But I think that as you get older and start to understand yourself more, you find how to focus and you learn what distracts you. If you remove yourself from those distractions, you will do much better in school. You have to find your groove and once you do it all comes together.

Jornal 7:
The first round of our dry dry review went well I think. I was very nervous going into this project because I have never really done anything like this. I have obviously presented in front of classes before, but I feel like this is much more professional. I have my whole speech put into a “script” and I have just been reading off of that and I know I need to change it into a format where I can talk more freely and have better interaction with the audience. I do not really know how to do that and it’s making me a little nervous. The peer review definitely helped me with noticing things that I definitely need to change and things I didn’t see. It showed me that I really need to practice and learn my speech. It also showed me that I need to do better with making eye contact with the audience. I think I do not make eye contact because I am too busy reading off of my paper and not really speaking fluently. The biggest things that I need to work on are keeping eye contact with the audience, adding more to speak off of, and changing it from being a script.
Journal 8:
When I watched my video it showed me a lot I need to work on. I looked very nervous the entire time and moved around non stop. I need to make sure I relax more while I read it and slow it down. I spoke very fast and I did not articulate well enough. I also still have not changed my format so my face was looking into my computer the entire time. I need to actually look at who I am speaking to so they feel like actually listening. When doing my other dry runs I thought I spoke at a good slow pace, but when I watched the video it made me realize that I have a little shake in my voice and I speak way too fast. If I slow it down it will help a lot with the time aspect of it. Watching the video really helped me figure out what I need to do with fixing my speech. Once I make these changes and practice it multiple times I think it will be a good speech. There are not a whole lot of changes I need to make, which is good, but there are a few that I need to make because those will really help transform my speech.

Advice:
Best advice to a peer-
I think the best advice I have given someone in our class is to relax. A lot of the people that I talked to and peer edited were very nervous and we weren’t even in front of the class yet. Even I was very nervous to present in front of two people. but being relaxed really helps and lets you flow much better.
Why its my best advice-
I think this is my best advice because almost everyone needed to relax a little. You could tell that most people were very nervous, they would fiddle with something or constantly move while presenting. I did this a very good amount as well. But you could tell who the people were who weren’t nervous.
BEST ADVICE FROM MY PEERS–
I think the best advice I received from a peer was to practice much more. I would stutter and not know what to say while I was presenting. Another thing I was told to do was change my format.
WHY IT’S THEIR BEST ADVICE–
I think this is their best advice because it showed me what I was messing up and how I could change it. They told me to practice more because I was very nervous and didn’t know what to say. I also was told to change the format because while I read my presentation, I did not make eye contact once. One of the main points of this presentation was to make eye contact with the audience. I had more of a story format and I changed it to bullet points instead.
